Research Fellow – Climate Risk Communication & Behavioural Science

About the role

The Wee Kim Wee School of Communication and Information, in partnership with the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering at NTU, seeks a Research Fellow to advance a project on community resilience to sea‑level rise. Working closely with Professor Shirley Ho, the Fellow will lead key research modules focused on risk perception, behavioural modelling, and engagement strategy design.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement survey instruments and focus‑group guides for residents and businesses.
• Develop and run behavioural experiments to assess risk perception and adaptation readiness.
• Contribute to the Risk Perception and Adaptation Readiness Report, especially the engagement chapters.
• Create a data‑driven climate risk communication framework incorporating gamification, VR, and behavioural science.
• Present findings at two international conferences under the supervision of Prof. Ho.
• Co‑author at least two journal articles in top‑tier journals.
• Support additional research activities as required by the project.

Required profile

• PhD in Communication, Psychology, Sociology, Social Science or a closely related field.
• Proven expertise in survey design, psychometric instrument development, and behavioural experiments.
• Experience in risk perception, climate or science communication, or public engagement research.
• Strong academic writing skills suitable for high‑impact journal publication.

Required skills

• Quantitative analysis using R, Stata or SPSS (including factor analysis, ANOVA, SEM).
• Familiarity with structural equation modelling packages such as lavaan (R) or AMOS (SPSS).
• Latent class analysis using tools like poLCA (R), Mplus or Stata.
• Qualitative data analysis with NVivo.
• Design and execution of factorial experiments.
