Research Fellow (Coral Microbial Ecology)

About the role

The Case Research Team in SCELSE at NTU is seeking a research fellow with established field techniques and experience working with marine microbes. The fellow will use molecular protocols for DNA and RNA isolation from marine bacteria and seagrasses for community analysis, genome sequencing and metagenomics.

Key responsibilities

• Perform manipulative experiments with corals and bacteria to determine their thermal and disease tolerance
• Sample, manipulate and experiment with corals using physiological and molecular analysis
• Work with a group of marine scientists to identify beneficial microbes for coral resilience

Required profile

• PhD in marine microbiology or marine microbial ecology
• Experience working with marine microbes and marine field experience
• Ability to culture bacteria and corals in laboratory and field station settings
• Comfortable swimming, working in the intertidal zone and travelling by boat for field sampling
• Ability to handle microbes safely up to Biological Safety Level 2 (BSL2)
• Ability to work in an interdisciplinary team, with initiative and excellent interpersonal skills
