Research Fellow (Coral Reef Ecosystems)

About the role

The Earth Observatory of Singapore (EOS) at Nanyang Technological University is seeking a Research Fellow (post-doctoral) in Coral Reef Ecosystems for an initial 12-month appointment, with possible extension depending on project needs and funding. The Fellow works under Assistant Professor Kyle Morgan, integrating photoquadrat, multiscale photogrammetry and environmental datasets to find regional spatial patterns and temporal trends in ecological processes and carbonate budgets across South and Southeast Asia.

Key responsibilities

• Lead research, analysis and publications on coral reef ecology, coral bleaching and carbonate budgets.
• Analyse large regional photoquadrat, photogrammetry, benthic and environmental datasets to identify spatial patterns and temporal trends.
• Develop frontier research questions and robust quantitative approaches.
• Plan and run regional scientific-diving field campaigns and build relationships with collaborators.
• Provide expert coral and benthic community identification and help with data quality control.
• Lead manuscripts, reports and presentations, support junior researchers and deliver a coherent research programme.

Required profile

• PhD in marine science, marine ecology or a related discipline.
• Strong publication record for the career stage in coral reef ecology or related fields.
• Expert coral and benthic identification, with field and scientific-diving experience.
• Advanced Open Water or Rescue Diver certification.
• Excellent scientific writing, communication, collaboration and independent research skills; familiarity with Southeast Asian reef systems is advantageous.

Required skills

• Strong statistical and data-analysis skills, including R/Python and large ecological or environmental datasets.
• Photoquadrat, photogrammetry and/or Agisoft Metashape experience is highly desirable.
