Research Fellow – Earthquake & Geodesy Studies

About the role

Nanyang Technological University is hiring up to five postdoctoral Research Fellows to join its multidisciplinary Earth Observatory team. The positions focus on paleoseismology, GNSS processing, seismic source characterisation, ground‑motion modelling and related geotechnical research to strengthen Singapore’s seismic hazard capabilities.

Key responsibilities

• Lead field investigations such as paleoseismic trenching, GNSS data collection and seismic source data compilation.
• Develop and maintain automated workflows for GNSS processing, integrate InSAR and geodetic observations, and produce deformation and strain‑rate models.
• Compile, quality‑check and analyse earthquake catalogues, fault datasets and geophysical surveys for probabilistic seismic hazard assessments.
• Prepare technical reports, conference abstracts, peer‑reviewed manuscripts and reproducible code bases.
• Mentor junior researchers and collaborate across the Earth Observatory, Asian School of the Environment and Civil & Environmental Engineering.

Required profile

• PhD in geology, geophysics, geodesy, earthquake engineering or a closely related discipline.
• Relevant post‑doctoral or professional experience (minimum 3‑4 years) in the specific research area of the position.
• Demonstrated ability to conduct fieldwork in tropical environments and to manage multidisciplinary research projects.

Required skills

• GNSS processing software (PRIDE PPP‑AR, GAMIT/GLOBK, GipsyX).
• GIS and mapping tools, structure‑from‑motion software.
• Programming in MATLAB and/or Python.
• Geochronological methods and sedimentological analysis (for paleoseismology).
• Statistical seismology and probabilistic hazard modelling techniques.
