Research Fellow – Flexible Bioelectronics

About the role

The School of Materials Science and Engineering at NTU seeks a highly motivated Research Fellow to advance soft, flexible, and stretchable electronic materials and devices. The role focuses on designing, fabricating, and characterising soft functional materials and interfaces for bio‑integrated electronics, including wearable sensors and plant bio‑interfaces.

Key responsibilities

• Design, fabricate and characterise soft functional films and device interfaces for flexible, stretchable and bio‑integrated electronics.
• Develop adhesive and interface strategies that ensure strong adhesion and reliable performance under mechanical deformation.
• Perform microstructural, chemical, mechanical and electromechanical testing, including reliability evaluation under bending and cyclic strain.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to integrate soft‑material solutions into functional electronic platforms.
• Assist in manuscript preparation, conference presentations, grant development and laboratory management.

Required profile

• PhD in Materials Science, Chemistry, Bioengineering, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
• Demonstrated research experience in flexible/stretchable electronics, soft or bio‑derived functional materials, or soft device interfaces.
• Strong background in adhesion, mechanical/strain engineering and electromechanical behaviour of deformable substrates.
• Record of publications in reputable journals and ability to drive research tasks independently.

Required skills

• Microstructural, chemical, mechanical and electromechanical characterisation techniques.
• Data‑analysis proficiency (e.g., MATLAB).
