Research Fellow – Integrated Photonics & Quantum Optics

About the role

The National University of Singapore seeks a Research Fellow to advance high‑efficiency integrated nonlinear and quantum photonic devices. The role combines theoretical modeling, simulation, device design, nanofabrication, and experimental testing within a collaborative research environment.

Key responsibilities

• Develop high‑efficiency nonlinear optical devices using van der Waals–Si₃N₄ hybrid waveguides, optimizing confinement, phase‑matching and frequency‑conversion efficiency.
• Design and integrate superconducting single‑photon detectors with optical waveguides, focusing on absorption, detection efficiency, geometry and timing performance.
• Create high‑efficiency quantum light sources based on periodically poled lithium tantalate, investigating SPDC, quasi‑phase matching, dispersion and photon‑pair generation.

Required profile

• PhD in Photonics, Optical Engineering, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Applied Physics or a related discipline.
• Demonstrated research experience with nonlinear optical materials, van der Waals materials, waveguides, quantum light sources, superconducting detectors or nanofabrication.
• Strong theoretical background in electromagnetic theory and related mathematics.
