Research Fellow (Molecular Microbiology and Biotechnology)

About the role

The Nanyang Environment and Water Research Institute at NTU is seeking a Research Fellow to lead molecular microbiology and biotechnology investigations into antimicrobial resistance (AMR) mechanisms and gene mobility. The role combines laboratory experiments with computational data analysis to elucidate resistance phenotypes and genetic determinants.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct molecular microbiology and biotechnology experiments related to AMR and gene mobility.
• Perform microbial cultivation, molecular biology, genetic, and antimicrobial susceptibility analyses.
• Analyze experimental results and, where applicable, genomic or other omics datasets.
• Integrate laboratory and computational findings and contribute to manuscripts, reports, and presentations.
• Collaborate with project members and support student mentoring and good research practices.

Required profile

• PhD in microbiology, molecular microbiology, biotechnology, molecular biology, environmental engineering, bioengineering, or a related field.
• Strong hands‑on experience in microbiology and molecular biology research techniques.
• Experience in antimicrobial resistance, microbial genetics, gene mobility, or microbial genomics is preferred.
• Bioinformatics skills, including analysis of genomic, metagenomic, or transcriptomic data, are an advantage.
• Proficiency with R, Python, Linux/Unix, sequence‑analysis tools, or biological databases is desirable.
• Good analytical, scientific writing, communication, organizational, and teamwork abilities.
