Research Fellow – Soft Materials for Actuation & Sensing

About the role

The School of Materials Science and Engineering at Nanyang Technological University seeks a highly motivated Research Fellow to advance soft‑material technologies for actuation and sensing, integrating materials science, advanced manufacturing, robotics and sensing.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct independent research on soft materials for actuation and/or sensing.
• Develop and implement actuation technologies.
• Optimize polymer synthesis formulations and functionalisation for actuator fabrication.
• Contribute to ongoing soft‑robotics research projects.
• Collaborate with faculty and interdisciplinary researchers.
• Publish research findings in peer‑reviewed journals and present at top conferences.
• Assist in mentoring graduate students.

Required profile

• Ph.D. in Materials Science, Materials Engineering, Actuators, Polymer Synthesis or a related discipline.
• Strong background in material formulation or synthesis.
• Experience with printing technology or coating techniques.
• Expertise in actuator device fabrication.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
