Research Fellow - Solid Waste Valorization

About the role

The Nanyang Environment and Water Research Institute (NEWRI) at NTU is looking for a Research Fellow to develop and test thermal technologies for solid waste valorization. The role focuses on experimental work in the laboratory, covering heterogeneous catalysis, pyrolysis and carbon capture for solid waste treatment.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct experimental work on thermal waste treatment technologies (pyrolysis, carbon capture, solid carbon and hydrogen generation)
• Design, procure, install and operate experimental prototypes
• Investigate catalyst performance, system configuration and process conditions that affect the yield and quality of outputs
• Develop improvements in catalyst formulation and system design to improve yield and quality
• Characterize samples and interpret results using techniques such as N2 adsorption, Raman, FESEM, TEM, XPS, XRD, TGA, TPO, TPR and GC-MS
• Liaise with project collaborators, publish research papers and document intellectual property
• Report progress to internal and external stakeholders

Required profile

• PhD in Chemical Engineering, Material Science, Environmental Engineering/Science or a related field
• At least 1 year of relevant experience or hands-on experience in pyrolysis, carbon capture, solid carbon and hydrogen generation
• Familiarity with analytical techniques for solid and liquid characterization
• Good written and oral communication skills
• Proficiency in designing experiments, interpreting results and writing papers and reports
