Respiratory Technician (Sleep Studies)

About the role

NHG is hiring a Respiratory Technician for a 6-month contract covering three shifts. The role covers diagnostic sleep studies, including Level 1 overnight polysomnography, Level 2 portable studies in the ward and Level 3 home sleep tests, as well as service quality and departmental duties.

Key responsibilities

• Perform diagnostic sleep studies: Level 1 overnight polysomnography, Level 2 portable overnight polysomnography and Level 3 home sleep tests.
• Assess patient history and medications before each procedure, explain the procedure, call patients as reminders and check fitness for the test.
• Prepare and calibrate testing equipment, perform physiological calibration and troubleshooting, and document observations such as sleep stages and clinical events.
• Assist in therapeutic testing (Positive Airway Pressure) and mask fitting, and help download and evaluate home test data.
• Maintain timely and accurate patient records, comply with infection control guidelines, perform calibration and quality checks, and keep emergency trolleys, resuscitative equipment and inventories maintained.
• Manage appointments, handle department performance indicators, collate monthly data and take part in quality improvement projects.

Required profile

• Diploma holder, preferably in Biotechnology, Biomedical Science, Life Sciences, Health Sciences or an equivalent.
• Preferably 2 years of clinical experience in polysomnography.
