Respiratory Therapist

About the role

NHG is hiring a Respiratory Therapist to provide basic and advanced respiratory care to patients with cardio-pulmonary deficiencies and abnormalities. The role covers intensive care units, where the therapist plans, implements and evaluates diagnostic and therapeutic respiratory care, emergency services and special procedures to help physicians diagnose and manage cardio-respiratory diseases.

Key responsibilities

• Manage patients on mechanical ventilators and perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation
• Assist in endotracheal intubation, arterial blood gas sampling and analysis, and bronchoscopy
• Take part in ward rounds with the medical team to review respiratory therapy for each patient
• Educate and train other healthcare team members, students and patients as needed
• Maintain and troubleshoot respiratory therapy equipment
• Contribute to continuous quality improvement and guide trainees and students

Required profile

• Degree in Respiratory Therapy
• Preferred: 3 years of ICU experience
• Team player with good interpersonal and communication skills
• Patient-focused, with a genuine desire to make a difference
• Sound clinical knowledge, critical thinking, judgment and decision-making in care delivery
• Can-do attitude and ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment
