Senior Application Developer - Backend, Cloud & AI

About the role

An established global maritime organisation providing container feeder shipping services is looking for a Senior Application Developer in Central Singapore. The technology team builds software products and automation solutions to improve operations, and the role suits someone who enjoys hands-on engineering, takes ownership of delivery and explores better ways of working. The position is permanent.

Key responsibilities

• Translate business requirements into practical, well-designed software solutions.
• Design, develop and optimise backend applications, APIs, microservices and asynchronous processes.
• Integrate applications and services using message queues and cloud technologies.
• Work with Product Owners and business users to understand workflows, clarify requirements and estimate effort.
• Prepare technical design documentation and take part in design, code review and technical decision meetings.
• Develop and run tests, identify risks and improve quality, security and performance.
• Troubleshoot production issues and implement fixes that improve reliability.
• Use AI coding tools responsibly to support development, testing, documentation and problem-solving.
• Contribute ideas that improve products, engineering standards and delivery processes.

Required profile

• Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or a related discipline.
• At least 5 years of hands-on application development, including web-based backend applications and web services.
• Experience with microservices, asynchronous processing and message queues (e.g. Kafka, RabbitMQ or SQS).
• Experience in Agile/Scrum teams and sound software engineering, design and optimisation practices.
• Working knowledge of networking and information security concepts.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to explain technical matters to business stakeholders.

Required skills

• C#, Java, Node.js, Python or SQL Server-based applications; other web service backgrounds may be considered.
• Cloud platforms: Azure, AWS or GCP, with working knowledge of modern deployment infrastructure.
• Practical experience with AI coding tools such as Claude Code, GitHub Copilot or Cursor.

What we offer

• Basic salary up to S$9,000 plus variable bonus.
