Senior Assistant Engineer, First Response (Water Reclamation Network)

About the role

This is a frontline first response role with the Water Reclamation (Network) Department at PUB. As Assistant Engineer or Senior Assistant Engineer, you join the first response shift team to manage sewerage and sanitary feedback, resolving incidents quickly while keeping high standards of stakeholder engagement and service quality.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and supervise a team in responding to and performing hands-on site investigations and resolutions of sewerage and sanitary feedback and incidents, such as choke clearing with rodding equipment and opening manhole covers, following operational and safety SOPs.
• Assess site conditions, identify root causes, decide on and implement resolution actions, and report and escalate cases by severity, sensitivity and risk.
• Engage internal and external stakeholders to obtain case details, report findings, give progress updates and recommend referrals and follow-up actions.
• Track case progress and coordinate with stakeholders so cases are resolved and closed promptly in line with service standards.
• Review and verify job cards and work orders to ensure responses are documented and meet contract requirements.
• Analyse feedback data, assess root causes and propose workflow and SOP improvements.
• Perform operations centre duties when required, including receiving and assessing feedback and deploying first response teams, plus other operational and administrative tasks assigned by supervisors.

Required profile

• Diploma in civil, mechanical or environmental engineering.
• Able to perform shift duties and physically demanding, hands-on field work in a used water environment.
• Valid Class 3/3A driving licence.

Required skills

• Sound analytical and problem-solving skills with good judgement and safety awareness while leading a small field team.
• Good communication skills with the public, contractors and internal and external stakeholders.
