Senior Commercial Counsel

About the role

Datadog’s Legal team is looking for a Senior Commercial Counsel to lead complex commercial negotiations across India and South‑East Asia. Based in Singapore, you will act as a trusted advisor to internal stakeholders while shaping the company’s contracting and compliance approach in fast‑evolving markets.

Key responsibilities

• Negotiate and close a variety of commercial agreements and ancillary documents supporting customer sales and partner engagements across India and South‑East Asia.
• Lead negotiations with Indian and South‑East Asian customers, including regulated sectors such as BFSI.
• Provide practical legal guidance to internal business teams, balancing risk with business objectives and escalating when necessary.
• Coach sales teams on negotiation strategies and deliver regular internal training sessions and office‑hours.
• Improve contract templates, playbooks and processes in line with emerging laws and regulations in the region.
• Support knowledge‑sharing and mentorship across the Commercial Legal team and contribute to special projects.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with Deal Desk, HR, Procurement and regional sales leadership across APJ.

Required profile

• Qualified lawyer (Singapore or other relevant jurisdiction) with at least 8 years of law‑firm and/or in‑house commercial transactional experience covering India and other South‑East Asian jurisdictions.
• Deep expertise in Indian law and its regulatory environment, especially for highly regulated industries such as BFSI.
• Strong familiarity with SaaS contracts and related technology areas including privacy, security, intellectual property and AI.
• Fluent English; conversational Hindi, Tamil or another South‑East Asian language is a plus.
• Excellent negotiation, communication and judgment skills, with high emotional intelligence.
• Ability to work independently, follow established processes and know when to seek guidance.
• Willingness to work from the Singapore office on a hybrid basis and serve as the local legal point of contact.
