Senior Firmware System Engineer

About the role

Rockwell Automation is expanding its development engineering footprint and is hiring a few Senior Firmware System Engineers for its global Power Motion Business (PMB) development organisation at the Singapore campus. The role reports to the Firmware Security Manager and is hybrid, based in the Singapore office.

Key responsibilities

• Design embedded firmware solutions for industrial automation products and firmware subsystems that improve performance, memory use, reliability, maintainability, security and scalability.
• Develop firmware using modern engineering practices and coding standards, and maximise reuse of existing components, frameworks, RTOS services, middleware and device drivers.
• Take part in firmware architecture, design reviews and technical discussions.
• Create unit tests, integration tests and system verification activities, and support requirements traceability and design validation.
• Investigate and resolve firmware defects, customer-reported issues and field anomalies.
• Collaborate with hardware, systems, quality, cybersecurity and product management teams, and mentor junior engineers.
• Support cybersecurity-by-design, Agile processes (Sprint Planning, Reviews, Retrospectives, CI/CD) and compliance with company policies and regulations.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering (with a focus on firmware), or equivalent.
• Minimum 2 years of experience in embedded system firmware development, including real-time firmware, device drivers and testing in C/C++ (other middle-to-high level languages and Python and scripting also required).
• Candidates with more than 4 years of experience may be offered a Senior Engineer position.
• Ability to organise and direct the activities of others and to work in a globally distributed, matrixed team.

Required skills

• Embedded firmware development in C/C++, Python and scripting languages.
• Green Hills Integrity OS, Multi IDE, TCP/IP networking, Git or similar version control, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Jira and Jama.
• Preferred: Real-time operating systems (FreeRTOS or Zephyr), CIP and CIP Security protocols, Scrum and SAFe, and experience delivering high-quality firmware subsystems at a high rate of productivity.
