Senior Forensic Scientist – Pharmacology

About the role

HTX’s Forensics Centre of Expertise is seeking a Senior Forensic Scientist to lead its Pharmacology team. The role will shape Singapore’s capability to detect and respond to emerging drug threats by developing innovative forensic methods and translating scientific discoveries into operational tools for the Home Team.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct horizon‑scanning of emerging psycho‑active substances and related technologies.
• Design, develop and validate novel forensic methodologies and analytical capabilities.
• Lead end‑to‑end projects, managing scope, budget, timelines and stakeholder communication.
• Serve as a subject‑matter expert, staying current with advances in instrumentation and analytical techniques.
• Collaborate with local and international academic, industry and forensic partners to co‑create new solutions.
• Maintain strong relationships with Home Team departments and internal HTX stakeholders.
• Prepare and submit ethical approvals, including Institutional Review Board applications.
• Mentor junior researchers and oversee day‑to‑day laboratory operations, including procurement, equipment maintenance and inventory.
• Ensure compliance with quality‑assurance and laboratory safety standards.

Required profile

• Advanced degree (PhD or equivalent) in Pharmacology, Toxicology, Forensic Science or a related discipline.
• Significant experience (typically 7+ years) in forensic drug analysis and method development.
• Proven track record of leading multidisciplinary research projects from concept to implementation.
• Strong publication record and experience presenting findings to scientific and law‑enforcement audiences.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder‑management skills.
• Ability to work independently and provide mentorship to junior staff.
