Senior Lecturer / Associate Professor – Intellectual Disability Mental Health

About the role

The University of New South Wales seeks a Senior Lecturer or Associate Professor to lead research, teaching and clinical capacity building in intellectual and developmental disability mental health. The position will shape a translational, co‑designed research programme aimed at improving mental health outcomes for people with intellectual disabilities, including autism.

Key responsibilities

• Provide academic and strategic leadership across research, education and stakeholder engagement.
• Lead a translational research programme focused on health services, systems improvement and evidence‑based practice.
• Collaborate with NSW Health, government agencies, healthcare providers and people with lived experience.
• Develop and deliver innovative education initiatives, both face‑to‑face and online.
• Mentor emerging researchers and supervise high‑calibre students.
• Contribute to teaching and research within the Discipline of Psychiatry and Mental Health at UNSW Medicine & Health.

Required profile

• MBBS/MD, PhD or equivalent with distinguished experience in psychiatry, psychology or related health discipline.
• Extensive experience in intellectual and/or developmental disabilities.
• Proven record of high‑impact research and academic excellence.
• Demonstrated ability to work in co‑design with people with lived experience.
• Experience in developing and delivering education and training programmes.
• Strong relationships with external stakeholders, including government and community organisations.

What we offer

• Academic Level C/D remuneration $155,000–$185,000 per year plus 17% superannuation.
• Annual leave loading and flexible full‑time/part‑time options (0.5–1.0 FTE).
• Opportunity for an affiliated clinical academic appointment with South‑Eastern Sydney Local Health District (for psychiatrists).
