Senior Mechanical Engineer – Optical Circuit Switches

About the role

We are looking for a Principal/Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead the mechanical design of advanced optical circuit switches. In this senior position you will drive innovation, ensure manufacturability, and mentor a cross‑functional engineering team.

Key responsibilities

• Lead design and optimization of mechanical components for optical circuit switches, including enclosures, fiber alignment systems, and switching mechanisms.
• Develop mechanical architectures that integrate fibers, MEMS, photonic components, and electronics.
• Design and implement thermal management solutions for high‑density optical systems.
• Conduct mechanical stress, vibration, and environmental testing to validate reliability.
• Oversee prototype development and testing from concept validation to full‑scale production.
• Collaborate with optical, electrical, firmware, and system architecture teams to ensure seamless integration.
• Drive Design for Manufacturability (DFM) initiatives for cost‑effective, high‑volume production.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers.
• Create and maintain comprehensive design documentation, drawings, specifications, and test reports.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field (PhD a plus).
• 8+ years of mechanical design experience for optical systems, especially optical circuit switches or telecom hardware.
• Proven track record leading complex mechanical projects from concept to production.
• Strong knowledge of thermal management, vibration analysis, and material selection for optical applications.
