Senior Research Engineer – ARTC

About the role

We are seeking a degree‑qualified Research Engineer to support and advance Laser Powder Bed Fusion (LPBF) research through integrated process engineering and digital manufacturing system development. The role combines hands‑on LPBF process execution with engineering responsibility for data integrity, system integration, and continuous improvement within an R&D environment.

Key responsibilities

• Execute LPBF builds, set up parameters, monitor in‑process performance, and support post‑build assessment to ensure experimental integrity.
• Integrate LPBF platforms with sensors, data acquisition hardware, and digital monitoring or control tools, including PLC and microcontroller‑based systems.
• Design and maintain laboratory IT and data infrastructure for reliable process data capture, storage, and traceability.
• Plan calibrations, coordinate maintenance, and work with equipment vendors to minimise downtime and ensure equipment readiness.
• Document configurations, technical changes, and engineering activities to support research reporting, audits, and knowledge transfer.

Required profile

• 2+ years of experience in a related field.
• Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Precision Engineering, Engineering Science, Advanced Manufacturing, or a closely related discipline.
• Analytical, detail‑oriented, proactive improvement mindset with strong written and verbal communication skills suitable for research documentation.

Required skills

• Manufacturing process engineering with exposure to Laser Powder Bed Fusion (LPBF) or high‑precision manufacturing systems.
• Understanding and handling of complex machine data, control parameters, and system interfaces.
• Hardware‑software integration, data acquisition, PLC programming, microcontroller interfacing, and industrial IT infrastructure.
