Senior Research Fellow

About the role

The Senior Research Fellow works closely with researchers and committees, internal and external, to develop, facilitate and manage collaborative projects. Key tasks include analysing data, preparing project protocols and writing manuscripts for submission to peer-reviewed journals.

Key responsibilities

• Work with principal investigators, collaborators and research support staff to develop research projects and grant proposals
• Lead the development of the assigned research programme and pursue external or internal funding
• Identify funding sources and help secure research grants
• Prepare manuscripts through literature review, data analysis and drafting
• Prepare grant applications under the direction of researchers, advise on study design and coordinate collaborator inputs
• Liaise with collaborators to integrate clinical and scientific information into new and ongoing projects
• Present study results at local and international scientific conferences and contribute to knowledge generation, exchange and transfer
• Act as research team leader where needed and coach colleagues in research techniques
• Plan, coordinate and implement research programmes, manage research resources and research budgets
• Take part in quality improvement activities, support department events such as Clinical Audit Day and the International Ophthalmology Conference, and cover duties of Research Assistants and Fellows on leave

Required profile

• PhD or Master's degree (minimum) in Life Sciences, Public Health or equivalent
• At least 2 years of experience in academic or clinical research projects
• Experience in grant administration and grant writing
• Track record of high-quality publications and/or innovation outputs
• Excellent oral and written English

Required skills

• Good knowledge of epidemiology and/or biostatistics preferred
• Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
• At least one statistical software package such as SPSS, Stata or R
