Senior Software Engineer – WPF, Firmware & Systems

About the role

Paeonia Innovations develops OrionIR™, a palm‑sized inline mid‑infrared spectrometer for Process Analytical Technology (PAT). We are seeking a versatile senior engineer who can move fluidly across the full stack – from firmware and hardware bring‑up to backend databases, industrial protocol integration, and the UI layers customers interact with.

Key responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain desktop and web applications in C#, Python, and C for instrument control, data acquisition, and analytics.
• Develop and optimise SQL databases that store product data, calibration models, and customer‑facing reports.
• Write and debug embedded firmware (C) for spectrometer and sensor subsystems, and collaborate with hardware engineers on schematics, signal integrity, and board‑level troubleshooting.
• Implement and support industrial communication protocols such as OPC UA, industrial Ethernet, and MODBUS for integration into customer PAT environments.
• Administer security across software assets – access control, network security, credential management, and patching – while protecting proprietary algorithms and customer data.
• Leverage AI coding tools to accelerate development, establishing safe usage patterns that safeguard IP and data.
• Design, prototype, and test user interfaces for embedded devices and companion desktop/web software, iterating with real user feedback.

Required profile

• Senior‑level engineer with a systems‑thinking mindset and proven ability to deliver end‑to‑end architecture across hardware, firmware, network, and software layers.
• Experience in secure, high‑performance industrial software environments and a strong commitment to data protection.
• Proactive use of AI productivity tools while maintaining strict IP confidentiality.
