Social Worker / Case Worker

About the role

The Social Worker / Case Worker at Melrose Home supports children and youth in out‑of‑home care to achieve their potential. The role ensures that the home and its support network contribute to the residents’ biopsychosocial development, improve long‑term outlook, and maintain connections with their families.

Key responsibilities

• Provide casework and counselling to residents and families, assessing risks, developing care plans, and advocating for access to opportunities.
• Collaborate with the residential care team to ensure programmes are trauma‑informed, meet MSF standards and international best practices.
• Participate in behaviour management, liaise with schools, and convey academic requirements to care staff.
• Engage in group work, community assessments and develop interventions that support reintegration or independent living.
• Represent the home in advocacy efforts and professional platforms to raise the profile of the organisation.
• Conduct monthly sessions with children and youths, document case records, and follow the Home’s standard operating procedures.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Social Work (or postgraduate diploma) or a degree in Counselling, Psychology or a related discipline.
• Relevant experience in the social service sector, preferably with children, youth and families.
• Ability to understand needs of out‑of‑home care residents, manage risk and protective factors, and work collaboratively with government agencies, schools and community partners.
• Strong interpersonal and written communication skills, culturally sensitive, reflective and committed to ongoing professional development.
