Software Engineer – Backend (User Squad)

About the role

As a Software Engineer in the User Squad at Sephora SEA, you will design and develop backend services that power a personalised experience for 1.4 million monthly active users across Southeast Asia and Oceania. You will work on high‑visibility projects that directly influence customer lifetime value and retention.

Key responsibilities

• Design, build and maintain robust, scalable backend services using Java 17+ and Spring Boot.
• Develop event‑driven integrations across micro‑services with Kafka or RabbitMQ.
• Deliver reliable user and loyalty experiences across multiple ecommerce platforms.
• Implement personalized, localized features for users in different countries.
• Utilise AI‑assisted development tools to improve productivity and code quality.

Required profile

• 3+ years of professional experience building production‑grade backend applications.
• Strong proficiency with relational (PostgreSQL/MySQL) and non‑relational (MongoDB) databases.
• Solid understanding of the Java ecosystem (Hibernate, JDBC, Maven, Gradle).
• Familiarity with cloud environments such as AWS or GCP.
• Experience with AI‑assisted development tools (e.g., Claude Code, GitHub Copilot) is a plus.
