Software Engineer, Digital Identity

About the role

Google is seeking a Software Engineer to work on its Digital Identity initiative within Google Wallet. The role focuses on building Android‑based solutions that enable users to store and present government‑issued identity credentials securely, both online and offline.

Key responsibilities

• Review and provide feedback on peer code to ensure style, testability and efficiency.
• Develop new features for Google Mobile Services Core, particularly in payments, tap‑and‑pay and mobile document storage.
• Participate in the full software development lifecycle from design through testing, release and monitoring.
• Write production‑grade Java or Kotlin code for Android platforms and troubleshoot issues across the stack.
• Collaborate with Product Managers, UX Designers and cross‑functional engineering teams across Wallet, Android and Google.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
• At least 2 years of professional experience in Java or Kotlin development.
• Minimum 2 years of Android application development.
• At least 1 year building software for data‑privacy or identity‑management.
• Preferred: Master’s or PhD in Computer Science, strong knowledge of data structures and algorithms, experience with digital credential standards (ISO, OpenID) and accessible technology development.
