Software Engineer – Merchant Onboarding Platform

About the role

PayPal is looking for a Software Engineer to help design, build, and scale the microservices, APIs, and data pipelines that power our merchant onboarding and servicing platforms. You will work on high‑impact, real‑scale distributed systems that enable merchants worldwide to join and thrive on PayPal.

Key responsibilities

• Write and maintain clean, efficient Java and Scala code for microservices and data pipelines.
• Design, implement and operate RESTful APIs and batch workflows using Spring Boot, Spring MVC and Spring Batch.
• Participate in agile ceremonies, code reviews, debugging and automated testing to ensure high‑quality releases.
• Collaborate with product, risk, compliance and partner teams to deliver onboarding and servicing platform features.

Required profile

• At least 3 years of professional software development experience, preferably in a payments or fintech environment.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities with attention to detail.

Required skills

• Java (core) and Scala programming.
• Spring ecosystem (Spring Boot, Spring MVC, Spring Batch).
• Building and scaling RESTful microservices.
• Designing and running data pipelines and batch processing jobs.
• Version control (Git) and CI/CD pipelines.
• Relational databases and cloud infrastructure concepts.
• Automated testing frameworks.
