Software Engineer - Merchant Onboarding & Servicing Platforms

About the role

PayPal's Payment Services & Crypto Engineering team owns the partner onboarding and experience domain. The team builds and operates the platforms that bring merchants and partners onto PayPal and serve them throughout their lifecycle, from first sign-up to day-to-day operations. This is a hands-on role for a Software Engineer with 3+ years of experience to design, build and scale the microservices, APIs and data pipelines behind those platforms, writing Java code and delivering customer-facing web experiences.

Key responsibilities

• Implement microservices, RESTful APIs and batch workflows in Java and Scala, following established SDLC practices and internal conventions
• Conduct code reviews, debug and write automated tests
• Build responsive, accessible web experiences for merchant and partner onboarding and servicing using modern JavaScript/TypeScript and component-based frameworks such as React
• Optimise front-end performance and ensure cross-browser and cross-device consistency
• Work in agile teams, using version control and CI/CD

Required profile

• 3+ years of relevant experience
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
• Ability to own a feature end to end, from UI to API to data

Required skills

• Java and the Spring ecosystem (Spring MVC, Spring Boot, Spring Batch)
• RESTful APIs, microservices and batch processing
• HTML, CSS, JavaScript/TypeScript and React (Angular or Vue also considered)
• Relational databases, data structures and algorithms
