Student Management Officer (Part-Time)

About the role

The Student Management Officer provides essential pastoral care and well‑being support to students, acting as the first line of emotional and behavioural assistance within the school environment.

Key responsibilities

• First line of support for students, providing one‑on‑one pastoral assistance to those who are anxious, distressed, withdrawn or emotionally overwhelmed.
• Uses restorative practices, active listening and de‑escalation strategies to manage situations constructively and build trusting relationships.
• Identifies, monitors and supports vulnerable or at‑risk students, maintaining regular check‑ins and tracking changes in behaviour, attendance and well‑being.
• Collaborates with Year Heads, school counsellors and discipline staff to ensure coordinated support and keeps accurate, confidential records of incidents and interventions.
• Responds promptly to emotional breakdowns, conflicts or aggressive behaviour, de‑escalating situations while prioritising safety and providing immediate emotional support.
• Plans and supports social‑emotional learning (SEL) and peer‑support initiatives, encouraging early intervention and peer connectedness.
• Communicates sensitively with parents/guardians about well‑being concerns and coordinates with external agencies such as social services or mental‑health professionals when needed.
