Technical Underwriting & Reinsurance Manager

About the role

The Technical Underwriting & Reinsurance Manager is a senior member of the Underwriting Leadership team, providing expert technical support to the Chief Underwriting Officer and business lines. The role drives underwriting excellence, ensures robust reinsurance coverage, and leads operational transformation across the portfolio.

Key responsibilities

• Lead implementation of underwriting strategies, technical standards, and risk‑appetite changes while ensuring compliance with internal governance and regulatory requirements.
• Define, update and embed underwriting guidelines, rating methodologies and best‑practice frameworks.
• Manage internal reinsurance treaties, renewals, documentation and coordinate with the Group, as well as oversee external facultative reinsurance purchases, placement strategy and post‑placement administration.
• Monitor reinsurance coverage adequacy, retentions, limits and aggregations, escalating gaps and recommending optimisations.
• Drive high‑impact operational transformation initiatives, workflow optimisation and process efficiency improvements.
• Promote adoption of digital underwriting tools, analytics and automation to enhance data‑driven decision making.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in technical underwriting and reinsurance management within a large insurance organisation.
• Strong knowledge of underwriting governance, regulatory compliance and risk‑control frameworks.
• Proven ability to lead cross‑functional initiatives, influence senior stakeholders and deliver strategic projects.
• Excellent analytical skills with a focus on data‑driven insights and continuous improvement.
