Technician / Technical Officer – Gas Plant Operations

About the role

This position is responsible for operating a Combined Cycle Power Plant safely and efficiently, ensuring that generation targets are met while adhering to all operational and safety guidelines.

Key responsibilities

• Operate the plant and auxiliary systems, managing start‑up, shutdown and routine operations.
• Monitor plant conditions, review operating parameters and correct deviations to maintain optimal performance.
• Identify, report and rectify system, plant and equipment defects.
• Ensure compliance with the generation dispatch schedule and conduct required operational tests and inspections.
• Respond to emergencies, equipment failures and outages.
• Oversee generating unit operations and maintenance activities, following safety measures and specifications.
• Inspect work areas, tools and equipment to prevent unsafe conditions.
• Prepare daily shift logs and other operational reports.
• Liaise with external agencies such as EMA PSO, PUB, NEA and SCDF on operational matters during shifts.

Required profile

• Nitec/Diploma in Mechanical, Electrical Engineering or an equivalent discipline.
• Knowledge of plant processes, operations and safety protocols.
• Relevant experience in power plant operations or related industries is advantageous.
• Possession of a 2nd Grade Engineer (Steam) or 1st Grade Engineer (Steam Combustion Engine) Certificate of Competency is an advantage.
• Willingness to work 12‑hour rotating shifts.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Word.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
• Experience with Maximo EAM or equivalent asset management software.
