Utilities Project Engineer Trainee (Attach & Train Program)

About the role

Roche is looking for a motivated Utilities Project Engineer trainee to join its Attach & Train program. The role supports the planning, construction and commissioning of pure water, cooling tower and wastewater utility projects, combining technical engineering, project coordination and field oversight to deliver projects on time, on budget and in compliance with codes and regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Support design and engineering by preparing drawings, calculations, specifications and cost estimates.
• Coordinate with cross-functional stakeholders, contractors, vendors, permitting authorities and internal teams.
• Develop and review construction plans, shopfloor drawings and contractor submittals.
• Perform site visits and construction observations, tracking progress, quality and safety compliance.
• Manage project schedules and project documentation.
• Prepare technical reports, as-built drawings, operation and maintenance manuals and close-out packages.
• Assist with permitting, regulatory compliance and utility coordination (easements, ROW permits).
• Provide technical guidance to junior staff and support commissioning, start-up, testing and handover.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Civil, Chemical, Mechanical, Environmental or Electrical Engineering (or related).
• 3+ years of experience in utilities design or construction (municipal utilities, water/wastewater, gas or power distribution).
• Knowledge of local, state and federal permitting and utility standards and codes.
• Strong communication, organisation and problem-solving skills.

Required skills

• Familiarity with BAS, PCS (DeltaV), SCADA, P&ID, pipeline design, pump/station design or electrical distribution as relevant.
• Proficiency in CMMS SAP and MS Office; project management software.
