Vessel IT Engineer - Maritime Remote Support
Fuku · Singapore
Job description
About the role
Fuku is hiring a permanent Vessel IT Engineer based in Singapore to provide remote L2 and L3 technical support for the IT infrastructure of vessels operating globally. The role suits hands-on IT support professionals who enjoy troubleshooting complex infrastructure issues and supporting mission-critical maritime operations, working closely with captains and ship crews to keep onboard IT connectivity and systems available.
Key responsibilities
- Provide remote L2 and L3 support to vessels, captains and ship crew, diagnosing and resolving hardware, software, network and communication issues.
- Manage, support, maintain and upgrade onboard IT infrastructure across the fleet, including networks, servers, workstations, Wi-Fi, firewalls, switches, UPS, storage and backup systems.
- Install, configure and optimise Microsoft environments such as Windows Server, Windows 10, Microsoft 365, Active Directory and Hyper-V.
- Monitor system performance, connectivity, availability and reliability, and perform remote security, network and system updates.
- Maintain cybersecurity controls, antivirus protection, backups and disaster-recovery solutions.
- Liaise with captains, crew, vendors and other IT teams, and occasionally board vessels for IT audits or ad-hoc work.
- Provide after-hours and weekend support on an on-call rotation, and work extended hours during critical incidents.
Required profile
- Diploma or degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or a related field.
- At least 2 years of IT infrastructure, technical support or systems-engineering experience, preferably in the maritime industry.
- Hands-on onsite infrastructure support experience, rather than mainly cloud-based Microsoft 365 support.
- Ability to communicate remotely with captains and multinational crews at varying technical levels, and to work independently under pressure.
Required skills
- Windows Server, Active Directory, Hyper-V, network switches, firewalls, Wi-Fi, UPS, storage, backup and replication.
- Strong troubleshooting across servers, networks, hardware and end-user systems, and experience with L2 escalations.
- Knowledge of satellite communications, radio systems or vessel automation is advantageous; cybersecurity experience is preferred.
What we offer
- Remuneration of up to $6000 plus an attractive variable bonus.
- A permanent position in a stable, globally established maritime organisation.
