Visiting Professor in Physics

Job description
About the role
Nanyang Technological University (NTU Singapore) is seeking a Visiting Professor in Physics with expertise in strongly correlated electron systems, unconventional superconductivity and quantum materials. The appointment is within the Division of Physics and Applied Physics (PAP) of the School of Physical and Mathematical Sciences (SPMS). The Visiting Professor will collaborate with PAP colleagues on a research programme titled "Local Control of Emergent Quantum States in Correlated Quantum Materials".
Key responsibilities
- Investigate the feasibility of manipulating electronic ground states locally through spatially varying strain fields generated by surface acoustic waves or standing ultrasonic modes, with particular attention to materials near bandwidth-controlled Mott transitions.
- Explore whether dynamically generated strain can control correlated electronic phases and study phase coexistence and non-equilibrium phenomena.
- Consider the manipulation and dynamics of topological defects under electrical current pulses, strain fields and related perturbations.
- Help assess the feasibility of these approaches, identify promising experimental directions and develop opportunities for sustained research collaboration.
- Contribute to the academic life of SPMS through one or two research seminars on topics related to the research expertise, and discuss with faculty members and research students.
Required profile
- A Ph.D. in Physics or a closely related discipline.
- An internationally recognised record of research in condensed matter physics, particularly in strongly correlated electron systems, unconventional superconductivity, quantum criticality or related areas of quantum materials.
- A strong record of original research contributions and publications in leading international journals.
- Experience in developing and leading collaborative research programmes.
Required skills
- Experience in low-temperature transport measurements, high-pressure studies, magnetic or electronic phase transitions and the investigation of emergent quantum states would be particularly relevant.
Applications are made according to NTU's recruitment procedures; enquiries go to the Division of Physics and Applied Physics, SPMS, NTU. Only shortlisted candidates will be notified.
