VP/SVP, Country Risk Management Specialist

About the role

As the bank grows strategically across the region, it faces new and emerging risks that can significantly affect the quality of its country credit portfolios. This role focuses on managing Country Risk by evaluating and mitigating geopolitical, macroeconomic and sovereign risks of countries where the bank has exposure. It is based in DBS Asia Central and is a full-time position.

Key responsibilities

• Scan macro trends, including political, economic and social developments, to identify and manage risk events for a country and their impact on the country portfolio
• Analyse country risk profiles proactively and recommend country limit actions to senior management
• Review and challenge annual reviews of country risk limits and triggers, presenting analysis and recommendations for controls
• Run internal rating models and carry out macroeconomic risk assessments to assign sovereign default, transfer and convertibility risk ratings to countries
• Work regularly with Country, Business and Credit stakeholders to understand the country portfolio and drivers of limit utilisation
• Manage escalation and remediation of tight utilisation or breaches of country limits
• Contribute to periodic reviews and enhancements of the Country Risk Management Standard and Guide and the underlying methodologies
• Support improvements to systems and data infrastructure for country risk monitoring

Required profile

• 10+ years of experience in Country Risk or Credit Risk management, with a proven track record of collaboration across and within teams
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Economics, Finance, Business or a related field
• Knowledge of financial regulations across Singapore and key markets
• Location: DBS Asia Central

Required skills

• Good understanding of country and macroeconomic risk and contagion impact on the bank's portfolio
• Ability to respond proactively to emerging macroeconomic events with risk mitigation measures
• Familiarity with Gen AI and technology to build efficient operational processes
• Leadership skills and ability to shape outcomes through cross-functional collaboration
