2025 Wholesale Graduate Programme - Trainee Underwriter

About the role

Markel International Singapore Pte Ltd runs its 2025 Wholesale graduate programme in Singapore, offering traineeships in the Asia Underwriting programme. Graduates are assigned to one of four underwriting divisions: Energy, Marine, Professional and Financial Risks (PFR) or Trade Credit and Political Risk (TCPR). The roles are permanent from day one.

Key responsibilities

• Take part in structured training with senior employees to learn the fundamentals of insurance.
• Perform back-office operations supporting underwriters, such as administrative tasks, legal and data management.
• Learn insurance terminology and how to assess, rate, quote and underwrite client risk.
• Attend lunches and events to build relationships with brokers and clients.
• Collaborate with finance, actuarial and compliance departments on challenging tasks.
• Enter data using systems including Microsoft Excel.
• Study towards a Singapore College of Insurance qualification and attend regular performance check-ins.

Required profile

• Achieved or on track for at least 3.0 above GPA on a 4.0 scale, or 4.0 above on a 5.0 scale.
• Team player who builds relationships, is proactive and committed to making a difference.
• Able to start work on or before 4 August 2025.
