AI Engineer (Python) – Hybrid, Singapore

About the role

We are seeking an AI Engineer with strong Python expertise to join a leading agency driving Singapore's Smart Nation and Digital Government initiatives. You will work in a hybrid setting, collaborating with product managers, engineers and partner teams to deliver AI‑powered backend solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Design, build and maintain scalable backend services and RESTful APIs using Python.
• Own end‑to‑end feature development, from design through testing, deployment and production support.
• Integrate internal platforms, external systems and third‑party services.
• Develop AI‑enabled capabilities such as document ingestion, retrieval and knowledge processing.
• Create and maintain data processing pipelines for reliable information retrieval.
• Work with relational and non‑relational databases to ensure performant, resilient systems.
• Debug production issues and improve system observability and reliability.
• Participate in code reviews and uphold best practices in testing, CI/CD, security and maintainability.
• Contribute to continuous improvement of architecture, performance and developer experience.

Required profile

• 4–5 years of backend software engineering experience.
• Proficiency in Python backend development using FastAPI or Flask.
• Familiarity with cloud platforms, especially Azure.
• Experience with large language models, Retrieval‑Augmented Generation (RAG) architectures, vector databases (e.g., Pinecone, Weaviate, pgvector) or prompt engineering.
• Knowledge of JavaScript/TypeScript and Node.js is a plus.
