Architect/Planner (Conservation Planning)

About the role

The Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA), a statutory board under the Ministry of National Development, is the custodian of Singapore's built heritage. It recommends buildings for conservation, regulates restoration projects, manages heritage districts and promotes awareness of built heritage. This Architect/Planner position is in the Conservation Planning Department, where you will help protect and promote Singapore's conservation areas and buildings.

Key responsibilities

• Process development applications and proposals for conserved buildings.
• Formulate policies and guidelines for conserved buildings and larger urban conservation areas.
• Undertake initiatives to protect and enhance the character and physical and socio-cultural environment of conservation areas and buildings.
• Plan and develop areas with heritage interest and evaluate heritage buildings for conservation.
• Engage with stakeholders and interest groups on proposals and development plans.
• Develop digital planning tools and analyse data using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and other applications.

Required profile

• Degree in Architecture, Urban Design or Planning, Geography, Building Conservation or Conservation Management, with a strong interest in architectural heritage and local identity.
• Experience in Singapore heritage and/or community-related projects and a keen eye for architectural and building details are an advantage.
• At least 2-3 years' experience in a related field is preferred.
• Pleasant, dynamic, public-oriented, able to multi-task and motivated to reach targets independently and in a team.
• Effectively bilingual in English and one of Singapore's official languages.

Required skills

• Knowledge or interest in the use of GIS, digital technologies and 3D systems in planning and conservation work.
