Assistant Manager – Lab Operations and Tech Support

About the role

We are seeking a proactive Assistant Manager to oversee laboratory operations and technical support within the Asian School of the Environment (ASE) and Earth Observatory of Singapore (EOS) at Nanyang Technological University. The role ensures that research labs and office facilities meet safety, regulatory and equipment standards, directly supporting world‑class scientific research.

Key responsibilities

• Manage maintenance, certification and safe operation of all laboratory equipment, coordinating with service engineers, vendors and contractors.
• Oversee chemical inventory management and hazardous waste disposal, ensuring accurate documentation and compliance with Singapore safety regulations.
• Plan and conduct laboratory and office safety inspections, audits and compliance reviews, and drive timely closure of findings.
• Lead investigations of safety incidents, accidents and non‑compliance cases, performing root‑cause analysis and implementing corrective actions.
• Deliver safety induction briefings and training sessions for staff, students and research personnel, and monitor completion of mandatory online safety modules.
• Maintain emergency response equipment, including first‑aid and fire safety assets, and support preparation of fieldwork safety equipment.

Required profile

• Detail‑oriented professional with experience in laboratory safety and operations.
• Strong knowledge of Singapore regulatory requirements for chemical handling and hazardous waste.
• Excellent coordination skills to work with multiple internal and external stakeholders.
• Ability to conduct investigations, produce root‑cause analyses and implement preventive measures.
