About the role
The Assistant Manager, Manufacturing Engineering will support the manufacturing business by controlling engineering processes and developing advanced single crystal casting and equiaxed superalloy grain size control. The role ensures high‑quality aerospace and industrial components through metallurgical analysis, process improvement, and close collaboration with casting and tooling teams.
Key responsibilities
- Develop and optimise single crystal and equiaxed casting parameters, controlling withdrawal rate, thermal gradient, mold pre‑heat and solidification conditions.
- Support tooling, mould design and ceramic shell development for single crystal applications.
- Perform metallurgical evaluations using SEM, EDS and optical microscopy.
- Prepare and maintain process documentation, work instructions and SOPs in line with aerospace standards.
- Collaborate with production to troubleshoot issues, improve yield and reduce scrap.
- Lead investment casting projects focused on defect reduction, process stabilisation and yield improvement.
- Drive continuous‑improvement initiatives in automation, grain‑size control and energy efficiency.
- Participate in new‑product‑introduction projects involving advanced superalloys.
- Oversee all casting steps from wax tooling to machining, identifying productivity improvements.
- Lead Industry 4.0 automation and robotics projects, including budgeting and ROI analysis.
- Train and mentor engineering staff.
Required profile
- Strong knowledge of casting metallurgy, gating systems and process parameters.
- Experience with metallurgical analysis and micro‑structural examination.
- Proven ability to lead process‑improvement and automation projects.
- Background in investment casting and advanced superalloy materials.
- Capability to develop and maintain technical documentation to aerospace standards.
