AVP, Platform SRE Engineer (SRE & Governance)

About the role

DBS is looking for a Platform SRE Engineer within its Group Technology team. The role ensures high availability of platform services and drives continuous improvement of their efficiency and resiliency, while developing automation to reduce toil and raise team productivity. It sits in the SRE & Governance area and covers application and infrastructure operations of the platform.

Key responsibilities

• Develop monitoring and onboarding guidelines for applications using the observability platform stack, and implement observability standards and processes in AppDynamics and other tools
• Automate routine tasks and reporting via APIs and scripting, and configure alerts to catch performance issues early
• Analyse transaction traces, application logs and system metrics to identify and fix performance issues, and define performance metrics with stakeholders
• Design monitoring solutions, build custom dashboards and reports, and integrate the observability stack with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps tools
• Create data retention policies and RBAC access controls, and maintain application patches, upgrades and EOS/EOL status
• Contribute to internal knowledge bases, document work and share insights with the team

Required profile

• University graduate (computer science or related field) with at least 10 years of IT experience
• Strong communication skills and ability to explain protocols and processes to team and management
• Passion for coding and for learning new technologies in open-source communities
• Good problem diagnosis, creative problem solving and ability to contribute to design and strategy discussions

Required skills

• Working knowledge of AppDynamics, ELK Stack, Grafana and Open Telemetry (OTEL)
• In-depth Unix/Linux, Shell and Python scripting
• SRE practices covering monitoring, observability, performance management, automation and resiliency
• Experience triaging issues in monitoring tools (transaction snapshots, diagnostic sessions, data collectors)
• Plus: Confluent Kafka, Prometheus, Dynatrace, Datadog, New Relic, Splunk, and AI/ML for automated root cause analysis
