Commodity Trader – Coal (Physical & Derivatives)

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Commodity Trader to lead the execution of physical and derivative trades for thermal and metallurgical coal. Based in our Singapore office, you will manage end‑to‑end transactions, build strategic client relationships, and drive market‑focused growth.

Key responsibilities

• Execute physical and derivative coal trades, ensuring profitability and operational efficiency.
• Source, price, and negotiate contracts for thermal and metallurgical coal.
• Develop and maintain relationships with key clients, suppliers, and industry stakeholders.
• Monitor global coal market trends, regulatory changes, and competitive activity to identify trading opportunities.
• Drive business development by exploring new markets and innovative trading strategies.
• Manage market exposure and implement risk‑management strategies.
• Coordinate cross‑border activities with traders, internal teams, Japanese‑speaking clients, and headquarters in Japan.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Economics, International Trade or a related field, or equivalent industry experience.
• Minimum 10 years of experience in coal commodity trading.
• Proven track record in sourcing, trading, and managing coal markets.
• Business‑level proficiency in spoken and written Japanese (JLPT N1).

Required skills

• Knowledge of derivatives markets, including futures.
• Familiarity with commodity trading platforms and exposure/risk management tools.
• Strong negotiation and contract management capabilities.
• Understanding of physical commodity logistics and shipment flows.
• Japanese language proficiency (JLPT N1).
