Customer Engineer

About the role

As a Customer Engineer at Applied Materials, you will act as the primary liaison with semiconductor customers, installing, maintaining and upgrading complex equipment. The role blends hands‑on technical work with direct customer interaction to ensure optimal equipment performance.

Key responsibilities

• Install, maintain and upgrade customer equipment, applying basic diagnostic techniques with guidance from senior engineers.
• Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on electrical, vacuum, mechanical, plasma, hydraulic and gas systems.
• Collaborate with senior engineers and customers to understand roadmaps, process flows and business challenges.
• Train and mentor junior field service engineers.

Required profile

• Associate degree, military technical training, field‑service experience or trade certification.
• 4‑7 years of experience in the semiconductor or related equipment support industry.
• Strong mechanical aptitude covering pneumatics, hydraulics, electronics, vacuum and thermodynamics.

Required skills

• Proficiency with hand tools and digital multimeters.
• Basic knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
• Ability to work in clean‑room environments and use personal protective equipment.
