Data Center Technician

About the role

Microsoft’s Cloud Operations & Innovation (CO+I) team is looking for a Data Center Technician to stage, set up, and deploy hardware across its global data center portfolio. You will work on critical infrastructure that powers services such as Bing, Office 365, Xbox, OneDrive, and Azure, following strict safety and operational standards.

Key responsibilities

• Perform diagnostics and troubleshooting following standard procedures, quickly identifying root causes and replacing faulty components.
• Execute post‑deployment quality checks, ensuring proper grounding, staging, labeling, and cabling according to safety protocols and Network Design Tasks.
• Decommission hardware for simple changes and refreshes, such as memory upgrades or rebuilds, with minimal guidance.
• Communicate, report, and escalate incidents to the appropriate Microsoft data‑center operations management units, Technician Leads, and engineering specialists.
• Assist and mentor fellow technicians on challenging or complex tasks.

Required profile

• Strong attention to detail for quality checks and safety compliance.
• Willingness to collaborate with peers and provide guidance when needed.
• Commitment to continuous learning through role‑specific training.

Required skills
