Data Engineer – Banking Data Migration (6‑month Contract)

About the role

We are looking for a senior Data Engineer to join a strategic data migration and reporting transformation project for a banking client. Over a six‑month contract, you will help move legacy tables, datasets, and reports into newly built enterprise data marts.

Key responsibilities

• Analyse existing data tables, reports, and processing workflows sourced from legacy data marts and manual processes.
• Perform source‑to‑target mapping, document field transformations, and identify gaps or optimisation opportunities.
• Develop, enhance and maintain SQL scripts using Hive and Impala via Hue, and automate workflows with Oozie.
• Validate migrated data through reconciliation, testing, and support user‑acceptance testing.
• Produce comprehensive documentation including data lineage, mapping, metadata, and run‑books.

Required profile

• Senior‑level professional with strong data‑analysis capabilities.
• Hands‑on experience with SAS, SQL, Python, and Hadoop‑based platforms.
• Ability to work closely with business stakeholders to understand reporting requirements.
