Data Engineer - Privacy & Compliance

About the role

Fuku is hiring a Data Engineer in Singapore. The role centres on building and maintaining clean, compliant datasets and pipelines, with strong emphasis on data desensitization, masking and anonymization before data is ingested or exposed.

Key responsibilities

• Inspect, classify and profile regional datasets to assess sensitivity and compliance requirements.
• Design and run pipelines for data desensitization, masking, anonymization and pseudonymization before ingestion and exposure.
• Maintain clean, compliant and well-documented datasets for downstream analytics and reporting.
• Support user-level and aggregated data analysis in line with regional data regulations.
• Work with data governance, security and legal/compliance teams to turn regulatory requirements into technical controls and workflows.
• Enforce compliance-by-design: no desensitization means no ingestion, no inspection means no exposure.
• Contribute to improving data quality, data lineage, metadata management and auditability.
• Help build and administer platforms under strict controls (RBAC, MFA, IP allowlists, separation of duties).

Required profile

• 3-5 years of experience as a Data Engineer or in a closely related role.
• Practical experience handling sensitive or regulated data (PII, user-level, financial or operational data).
• Working knowledge of data compliance concepts and frameworks such as SOC2, HIPAA, PDPA, GDPR or EO14117.
• Preferred: experience in multi-region or cross-border data environments and prior work with legal, compliance or security teams.

Required skills

• Data pipelines, ETL/ELT and data warehousing (Spark, SQL, Airflow, Kafka, Hive or equivalent).
• Data cleaning, validation and quality assurance.
• SQL and at least one programming language (Python preferred).
• Preferred: data masking/anonymization, metadata management, audit logging, cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) and security best practices.
