Data Scientist – Platform Governance (E‑Commerce)

About the role

The Platform Governance team at TikTok E‑Commerce builds an AI‑driven ecosystem to protect sellers and listings. As a Data Scientist you will design detection strategies, create risk metrics, and monitor ecosystem health.

Key responsibilities

• Discover abuse patterns in seller and listing behavior and translate insights into governance rules, thresholds, and risk scores.
• Develop and deploy practical machine‑learning models (e.g., XGBoost, Random Forest, anomaly detection) and clustering techniques to identify organized bad‑actor groups.
• Define core governance metrics such as Low‑Quality Listing Rate and Bad Seller On‑boarding Rate, and build dashboards to visualize risk trends.
• Design automated alert systems for anomaly detection and continuously evaluate strategy precision, recall, and false‑positive impact.
• Conduct rapid root‑cause analysis when key metrics fluctuate, distinguishing governance effects from external factors.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science or a related field.
• 2+ years of experience in data science, analytics, or risk strategy.
• Strong ability to explain complex data trends to non‑technical stakeholders.

Required skills

• Expert‑level SQL for large, complex datasets.
• Proficiency in Python (Pandas, Scikit‑learn) and tree‑based models (XGBoost, LightGBM).
• Experience with unsupervised learning and clustering techniques.
• Hands‑on experience with BI/dashboard tools such as Tableau, PowerBI, or Metabase.
