Director – Industrial Biotechnology R&D

About the role

The Director will lead strategic research and innovation initiatives within the industrial biotechnology sector. This senior position shapes R&D priorities, oversees funding programmes, and drives the commercialisation of research outcomes.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and execute the R&D roadmap aligned with long‑term strategic and economic objectives.
• Oversee fund administration, including selection criteria, proposal evaluation, and monitoring of funded projects.
• Build and maintain relationships with government agencies, industry partners, and the research community to support collaborative innovation.
• Drive commercialisation through technology transfer, licensing, and spin‑off development.
• Provide scientific and technical leadership when engaging with principal investigators, researchers, and industry stakeholders.
• Support management of complex research and innovation portfolios to maximise impact and value creation.

Required profile

• Advanced degree in Biotechnology, Chemical Engineering, Biochemistry or related field; PhD preferred.
• 10–15 years of leadership experience in the industrial biotechnology sector.
• Proven experience in R&D strategy, innovation management, or technology commercialisation at regional or global level.
• Strong track record of working with research, industry and public‑sector stakeholders.
• Experience managing large‑scale research grants or complex R&D portfolios.
• Excellent communication, stakeholder management and relationship‑building skills.
