Economist – Macro Research for ASEAN & South Korea

About the role

Reporting to the Head of Asia Research, you will produce high‑quality macroeconomic research and forecasts for ASEAN and South Korea economies. The role supports ANZ’s commercial objectives by delivering timely insights, strengthening institutional client relationships, and contributing to the regional research franchise.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain macroeconomic forecasts for primary coverage economies.
• Produce differentiated, commercially relevant research for internal and external clients.
• Represent the bank externally through client, market and media engagements.
• Engage with policymakers, central banks, government agencies and market participants to deepen market intelligence.
• Contribute to regional and global research initiatives in collaboration with the wider research team.
• Maintain high standards of analytical rigour, data integrity and regulatory compliance in all publications.

Required profile

• Experience as an economist or strategist in the finance sector or a related field.
• Strong understanding of economic structures and drivers in the Asia region.
• Knowledge of central‑bank frameworks, policy‑making processes and their economic transmission.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills for diverse audiences.
• Proven data analysis and forecasting abilities.
• Collaborative style with ability to work across regional and global teams.
• Initiative, sound judgement and capacity to work independently while managing competing priorities.
• Interest in financial markets; quantitative, statistical analysis and programming skills are highly regarded.
