Head of Retail Strategy & Leasing

About the role

The client, an established property developer, is creating a new retail destination in Johor Bahru. They are looking for an experienced retail leasing leader to shape the commercial vision, tenant strategy, and overall success of the project from concept through launch.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and execute the leasing strategy for the new retail development, aligning with business and financial targets.
• Conduct market analysis, competitive benchmarking, and demand assessments to identify opportunities and recommend retail categories.
• Build and maintain relationships with local, regional, and international retailers, securing anchor tenants and traffic‑driving concepts.
• Lead lease negotiations, manage commercial discussions, and foster long‑term retailer partnerships.
• Curate an optimal tenant mix that enhances customer experience, occupancy, rental income, and asset performance.
• Monitor retail market trends, consumer behaviour, and emerging concepts to provide strategic recommendations.
• Collaborate with Asset Management, Marketing, Operations, Finance, and Project teams, presenting leasing updates and forecasts to senior leadership.

Required profile

• Proven experience in retail leasing leadership for large‑scale mixed‑use or township projects.
• Ability to work closely with senior executives and cross‑functional stakeholders.
• Strong commercial acumen with a focus on occupancy, rental growth, and long‑term asset value.
