Lecturer / Senior Lecturer in Maritime Studies

About the role

The Singapore Maritime Academy seeks passionate maritime professionals to join as Lecturers or Senior Lecturers. You will shape the next generation of maritime talent by developing curricula, delivering courses, and engaging in applied research and consultancy.

Key responsibilities

• Design, deliver and continuously improve modules for Diploma in Nautical Studies, Diploma in Maritime Business and Certificate of Competency.
• Ensure all teaching content aligns with the STCW Convention and current industry practices.
• Collaborate with industry partners to organise field trips, internships, student‑industry projects and overseas programmes.
• Advisory support for training equipment and facilities to guarantee authentic practical sessions.
• Provide mentorship, pastoral care and career guidance to students.
• Participate in internal and external QMET audits and support polytechnic outreach activities.

Required profile

• Extensive knowledge and hands‑on experience in the maritime sector.
• Demonstrated passion for teaching and youth development.
• Resourceful, innovative and excellent communicator.
• Relevant maritime qualification (e.g., Deck Officer certification) and teaching experience preferred.

• Navigation and electronic navigation systems.
• Shipboard operations and cargo handling.
• Maritime communications and GMDSS.
• STCW standards compliance.
• Navigation simulator operation.
• Maritime economics, port operations and ship chartering.
• Marine insurance and ship management.
• HSSE management and ESG principles.
