Lecturer / Senior Lecturer – Outdoor Education

About the role

The School of Sports and Health is seeking a passionate Lecturer or Senior Lecturer to join the Diploma in Outdoor Education (DOE) team. You will play a key role in delivering high‑quality teaching, curriculum development, and industry engagement for students pursuing careers in outdoor and adventure education.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver Pre‑Employment Training (PET) and Continuing Education and Training (CET) modules covering climbing, abseiling, kayaking, challenge‑course management, campcraft, navigation, and expedition management.
• Mentor and support students’ academic, personal, and professional growth, acting as a positive role model.
• Develop, review, and enhance curriculum to align with current industry practices, safety standards, and emerging trends.
• Design and facilitate experiential, student‑centred learning experiences that build technical competence, leadership, resilience, and reflective practice.
• Maintain robust safety, risk‑management, and operational standards during field‑based lessons and expeditions.
• Build and sustain partnerships with industry, community, and professional bodies to enrich curriculum relevance and create project opportunities.

Required profile

• Relevant qualifications in outdoor education, sports, recreation, education, health or a related discipline.
• Minimum of 5 years of industry experience in outdoor or adventure education.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Strong organisational, time‑management and administrative abilities.
• Demonstrated passion for outdoor education, reliability, independence and problem‑solving initiative.
